Valve Software announced on Monday that they will release Mac versions of all their games in April.

Monday, March 8, 2010 can be remembered as the day when the age-old mantra, “but there is no games for the Mac” might be buried once and for all. Today, Valve Software sent out a press release saying that the web service Steam will be coming to the Mac in April, and Valve’s own titles will be available in versions for Mac OS X from day one.
That makes it unnecessary to get a Windows license just to play Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress 2 and Left For Dead 2. The games will be based on OpenGL, in other words, it is not just a quick porting using Cider.

Thanks to the new service Steam Play it is possible to download versions for both Windows and Mac OS X without the risk of paying double. This allows you to have a version of the favorite game on your work computer and another on your home computer.

Valve Software also promises that Mac OS X will be just as high a priority as Windows and Xbox 360. In other words, games and updates will be released simultaneously to all three platforms.
Finally, Valve will also work to ensure that games from other companies, that are sold through Steam, also will be released to the Mac.
