According to several sources within the music industry Google will release a competitor to Apple’s iTunes store this autumn.
CNET reports that several sources in the music industry, claims that Google may be releasing a digital music service as soon as this autumn. According to the CNET sources, Google’s music service will be competing with Apple’s iTunes and offer music for both downloading and streaming.
Google has already hinted that the company will invest in a music service. During the conference Google I/O 2010 last month, Google demonstrated an online music service. In addition, Google has also bought the company Simplify Media, which is specializing in streaming music.

According CNET, Google will link its new music service with the company’s search service. This means that users will be able to search the music and purchase them directly from Google.
According to a study from NPD Group Apple’s iTunes now has 70 percent market share of all music sold legally over the internet in the United States. The nearest competitor is Amazon, which has a market share of twelve percent.
