NASA is behind the First Person Explorer game Moonbase Alpha, that can now be downloaded from Steam.

The space scientists at NASA have used their experience from previous lunar expeditions and created a computer game, where anyone can get an insight into what it like on the moon. In the game Moonbase Alpha the player is part of a team that sets out to explore the southern part of the moon.

This is how NASA describes the game:

In ‘Moonbase Alpha’, players will step into the role of an exploration team member and will be immersed in a futuristic 3D lunar settlement. Their mission is to restore critical systems and oxygen flow after a nearby meteor strike cripples a solar array and life support equipment. Available resources include an interactive command center, a lunar rover, mobile robotic repair units and a fully stocked equipment shed.

NASA calls it a “First Person Explorer” game, where you must make use of robots, vehicles, repair tools and other equipment to be successful. Taliban tasks can be solved in different ways, but since time is an important factor in space, you score the most points by solving them as soon as possible by cooperation and by lessons learned from previous courses.

NASA didn’t just design this game for entertainment, but also to inspire youth to seek education in space science. Moonbase Alpha can be played alone or by up to six players online. The game is developed on the Unreal 3 game engine, and can be downloaded via Steam now.
