Currently there are beta versions of Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone, an emulation software to run mobile applications on a desktop PC, Silverlight for Windows Phone to create advanced user interfaces, XNA Game Studio 4.0 for game development and Expression Blend for Windows Phone for graphic design .
Microsoft has gained large market shares in many segments, thanks to good development tools. Obviously they are hoping that this trend also will repeat itself in the mobile market. According to Microsoft preliminary versions of the developer tools has been downloaded in more than 300 thousand copies.
Some of the improvements to prior versions of the tool is inclusion of several new Silverlight components, for example, to deal with pivot tables. In addition, a marketplace for applications will be launched in early October, which can be seen as an indication to when the new OS will be launched.
