Sony has released a new update for the PlayStation 3, obviously to stop the jailbreak of the machine.

A few weeks ago, a jailbreak tool making it possible to run pirated material on the PlayStation 3 was announced. In the new firmware, version 3.42. this exploit is completely patched. Besides removing the jailbreak, or address safety concerns, as Sony puts it, there are no new features.

Unfortunately (for some), Sony has flagged 3.42 as a mandatory update, which means that you need to update to access the PlayStation Network and PlayStation Store.
