Sony Ericsson has just released an update for their Xperia phones. While the X10 is one of the largest phones on the market, the X10 Mini is the smallest, with the Android OS. There were many who questioned why the multi-touch feature was not made available in a mobile with the screen size of Xperia X10 from the beginning. but now it is finally here, at least partially.

With the latest update it is now easier to zoom with the X10. The new update brings “Pinch Zoom”, along with a few other new features to the phone. According to Sony Ericsson’s development blog, it is now possible to trim videos in the phone. The videos are transcoded to fit into MMS-messages even if they were recorded in high quality. Minor changes to Mediascape with access to “Now Playing” in the top right corner are also a new feature.

Pinch Zoom, however, is currently only possible in the web browser and Google Maps, and a few third party applications, like Angry Birds.

For the smaller members in the Xperia family, the update doesn’t bring any revolutionary news. But Sony Ericsson has unlocked support for ANT+. This is interesting because ANT + is a way for the phone to communicate with other devices, like heart monitors. It will possibly not affect the average user, but at least the function is available.

The update can be downloaded via the Sony Ericsson PC Companion, or directly via the update function on the phone.
