The new logo was revealed in developer version 11 (11.0.696.12) of Google Chrome. The new design looses the bubbly 3D look and replaces it with a clean, flat and geometric look.

Below you can see the old and new logo compared side by side. The new logo is to the right.

It will be interesting to see if it is only the logo that is being changed, or if Google has plans for a re-design of the user interface, as well.

However, the new design is not as surprising as you may think. A blue version of the new clean cut logo was revealed for Chromium, the open-source version of Chrome, about a week ago.

The timing seems quite good, considering the fact that Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 was released yesterday. Not to forget Mozilla Firefox 4, which is expected in a final version any day now, with a completely new design.
