When Google reveals new products, there is always a huge interest, and Google+ is no exception. After “insane demand” from people who wanted to test Google’s Facebook challenger, the company was forced to disable the invitation system last night.

It was Google’s Vic Gundotra, head of Google’s social services, that this morning announced that the company is now closing down the invitation system.

Vic Gundotra –  05:45 –  We’ve
shut down invite mechanism for the night. Insane demand. We need to do
this carefully, and in a controlled way. Thank you all for your
interest!

For any who wish to leave, please remember you can always exit and take your data with you by using Google Takeout.

It’s your data, your relationships, your identity.

Hopefully he will also let us know when the company decides to open for invitations to the service again.
