Apple has now released the second beta version of iOS 5 (build 9A5248d) for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch to registered developers worldwide. If you are a registered developer, you can download a new beta version from the iOS Dev Center.

New features include:

  • Lots of bug fixes
  • Improved performance
  • Wireless synchronization between device and Mac is now active
  • Support for OTA updates
  • Ability to backup to icloud when the device is first started

Apple has also released a second beta version of iTunes 10.5. Please note that you are strongly advised to install this version if you are already running the new beta of iOS 5. Users of Snow Leopard should also update to Mac OS X 10.6.8.

The final version of iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5 is expected sometime this fall, probably in September.
