The next generation of Apple’s iPad will be presented in San Francisco next week, on March 7, according to an invitation that Apple sent out yesterday.

The invitation is illustrated with a picture of the screen of an iPad, as you can see below.

According to the hottest rumors, the next iPad will get a Retina display with twice as high resolution as the existing iPad. That is a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels. It is also expected to have a significantly faster processor.

Rumors claim that it will have a quad core processor, but it is more likely that it will be a tuned version of the existing processor with two cores.

Recently, several pictures have surfaced on the Internet showing what may be the next iPad. According to those images it is expected to be slightly thicker than the the iPad 2.

The event will take place at Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco.
