Last friday, Microsoft revealed the brand new logo for Windows 8 and it also signals the company’s future profile. The new logo for Windows 8 has changed a lot compared with the more colorful logos of previous versions of Windows.
The new logo is much simpler as you can see below.
The fact that Microsoft has chosen a minimalist style reveals, according to several graphic designers, that the company is investing in a more aesthetic profile.
We wanted the new logo to be both modern and classic by echoing the International Typographic Style (or Swiss design) that has been a great influence on our Metro style design philosophy. Using bold flat colors and clean lines and shapes, the new logo has the characteristics of way-finding design systems seen in airports and subways.
Microsoft’s new logo has already created heated debates on several news sites around the web. Some call it genius, others say it leaves much to be desired.
Forbes notes that the new logo is also strikingly similar to the one used for Windows 1.0 (see below).
