Since Facebook acquired the social photo service Instagram earlier this year, many have wondered what the next area of focus will be for Facebook.  During an interview at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference,  Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says that they will focus more on creating a search engine.

“We’re  basically doing 1 billion queries a day and we’re not even trying.” He followed up noting “Facebook is pretty uniquely positioned to answer the questions people have. At some point we’ll do it. We have a team working on it.”

Most people use Facebook search to look up friends and acquaintances, but also to find applications and companies, according to Zuckerberg. He will, however, make the search better and also provide users with answers to their query, not just a bunch of search results.

“Search engines are really evolving to give you a set of answers, ‘I have a specific question, answer this question for me.'”

Zucerberg revealed nothing about when they would launch a new search technology, or if it will be a special service or implemented directly into Facebook.
