Earlier this year Microsoft revealed a new tool called Skype Translator, a tool that makes it possible to translate languages in real time. Skype Translator allows you to speak in your own language, and then translate it into the language of the person in the other end with the aid of an artificial voice.

The preview of Skype Translator will initially be available for Windows 8.1 computers and tablets only. According to Microsoft, there’s a limited number of preview spots available, so register here today if you would like to check it out.

Below is a short video demo of Skype Translator in action. Even at this early stage it is quite impressive.

The following languages are currently supported: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. More languages will be supported at a later stage in the developement.
